Only kidding (not really), but that was my dues for the early out thing.

Hey Gary, nice to see your stories.

Well Pete, there were MANY times I FELT like going to sleep working on the 4th deck, and many times I'd crawl into my rack for a few minutes of shuteye in the morning after standing 4th deck watch on the 12-4 before Adrian Houston would come wake me up for a few more pointless hours of field day. I just don't remember having an outline painted around me. If it did happen, then it's pretty damn funny.
It helped a lot to have the Noodles and the quasi-Noodles around to keep things light.

I do think the guy sitting next to Rich Ralston in the first of his pictures is none other than the legendary...Spoerl!

Weird Scene at Waffles and Things

Gary, thanks for remembering our old favorite early morning breakfast joint. One trip I remember vividly to Waffles and Things involved the police. We were extremely wasted, even for us, when Gary drove us in a 60 something model Dodge Monaco to have some breakfast. We were especially amused at the smiley faces on our eggs and laughing hysterically when the cops started surrounding the building across the street. There was even a police helicopter hovering overhead. In our condition, paranoia suddenly set in. We kind of tried to nonchalantly ease out the door to make our getaway in the Monaco. Gary must have been doing all of 5 MPH as we made our escape. Only after we sobered up and read the paper did we realize the cops had cornered some bank robbers in the building across the street.

I think I went to that diner once... or maybe it was another one. Anyway, I spent the whole meal watching this crazy homeless dude try to sneak in and go to sleep under the counter. This happened like 5 times, the guy would sneak in the door and practicaly dive under the counter so he wouldn't get caught. Shortly after he'd settled in, the manager would come around the counter, spot him, and boot him out to a chorus of our boos.
I don't think I've ever seen a more entertaining floor show.

Nicknames part 57

Department:Rx
Author:Elmo
Era:1985

Hearing the story about Elmo 2 reminded me how much I hated the name Elmo. I have no one to blame but myself though. We were on my first med not in Tangiers probably Naples. A bunch of RT people were getting drunk at the time and Marvin Hadley said he didn't know my name so I said Elmo and it stuck for good.

Cars

First HI to Gary, and thanks for reminding me of this story. My whole time in the Navy all of my cars were disposeable(sp?). First was a Galaxy 500 driven into a snow drift in Idaho Falls. I saw this car on the lot where I bought my truck for sale for $500. Then my truck was abandoned 2 times. Once after our first Med then it came back and I left it in the back yard of our VA Beach house.

Cars II

In between my truck and my Truck I bought a motorcycle from Brian Tiefer. Which I proceeded to get a DUI on in Portsmouth. Brian was afraid I would not pay for it but I did. I left that at the Police Impound Yard. Then Mike Ross left (previous story) and I left his motorcycle in Portsmouth Naval Yard when the battery died. After my last Med I bought Gary's car, I don't even remember what kind it was. It's alternator died and I left it where it was. on a street in Hampton while we were in drydock. Shortly after I got out and my first car out of the Navy was a 69 Buick Riveria which I left when I moved out of an apartment. That was my last disposeable car.

Mikey Again

Mike was also the star of a show in Jamaica. In the strip club that was doing live sex on stage and other stuff. The bar was off limits after the first night which sucked. The girl would come to the edge of the stage sit down and grab a patron head and bury it in their nether regions. Well Mikey was thirsty so he asked for water and they had no glasses so they gave him a Rum bottle full of water. He started chugging it and the whole bar was amazed as he chugged a full bottle of WATER which they thought was RUM. That was a good night.

The 2 main place I went from Naples were first Med - Capri, second Med - Sorrento With the Noodles to sing New York, New York really loud at the Pis Pub, third Med - Capri and Sorrento. I don't remember the name of the restaurant behind Brewmiesters pub in Sorrento but we had a great New Years dinner there.
